Formation of CUA (Ghana Co-operative Credit Union Association)
In September 1955, the first Credit Union in Africa was formed at Jirapa in the North – West now the Upper West Region. The idea was introduced by Rev. Father John McNulty an Irish Canadian. Upon discussion with the first President of the Republic, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah by the then Bishop Dery of Wa. The President encouraged the formation of credit unions across the country.
In 1968, The Ghana Corporative Credit Union Association (CUA) Limited was formed to regulate credit union in Ghana.
Formation of Good News Co-operative Credit Union
The formation of Good News Co-operative Credit Union was initiated by Regina Hemans Asmah with the assistance of 10 other members in December 2008 after she was retrenched from Amalbank Ltd..
Since then, the society has grown from a humble beginning to its present state as one of the top 10 in the Ashanti Region. The society operates within Kumasi metropolis in the Ashanti region, and has 5 branches at Amakom, Atonsu, Suame, Ayeduase and MOKE within the Kumasi Metropolis.
